The Story of The Old Man Syrah

With a wine named ‘The Old Man' Syrah, Father's Day felt like the perfect time to share its story.

The wine was crafted for Angus and Sam's dad, David Wardlaw - a Barossa winemaking pioneer who shaped their love of vineyards and purity of fruit from day one. Raised among old vines, helping out during vintage, with industry legends regularly sharing the table, it was not a surprise the brothers would follow his footsteps.

But did David plan for his two sons to become winemakers together? - “Not a chance!” he laughs. "I didn't encourage them, but didn't discourage. But I'm very happy that they are."

So why this Syrah? Angus says:

"One of Dad's favourite wines was always a medium-bodied, elegantly structured Eden Valley Syrah -
vibrant cherry, raspberry and a hint of white pepper. We knew we had to make this wine for him."
